The History of Digby Eye Associates

Donald J. Digby, M.D. began practicing ophthalmology in Greensboro in 1984. In 1988, with a small group of nurses and technicians, Digby Eye Associates was founded. The goal was to build a practice based on the highest possible quality of care for all patients in an atmosphere of compassion and friendship. That remains the goal of the practice today.

Digby Eye Associates began with a staff of 4 in an office of less than 2000 square feet with only 2 examination lanes.

Building on the founding principals of quality care and service to patients, the practice grew rapidly and now has 3 locations with 25,000 + square feet of office space, 35 examination lanes, minor surgical and laser surgical suites as well as full service optical boutiques. There are 6 physicians and more than 40 support staff members. Each office utilizes the most advanced diagnostic and surgical technology available today and is constantly updated with the technology capabilities that have been proven to be beneficial to the patients.

Digby Eye Associates is recognized as a research and thought leader in ophthalmology by both medical and surgical companies. They serve as an educational resource for other physicians and their staffs as well as patient educators in the field of ophthalmic diseases. The Greensboro office provides an ophthalmic rotation for internal medicine residents and family practice residents with the University of North Carolina- Moses Cone Residency Training Program.

Digby Eye Associates has been involved in national and international studies and projects with numerous institutes of higher learning including Wake Forest University, Duke University, National Eye Institute, and University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill. In 2005, Digby Eye Associates took a leadership role with the Glaucoma Research Foundation in the development of the Glaucoma Awareness Project targeting historically black colleges and universities. The goal of this long-term project is to reduce the high incidence of blindness from glaucoma in the high-risk black population through education.

Digby Eye Associates prides itself on establishing and maintaining the best possible ophthalmic care while keeping a sharp focus on the individual patient needs.
