Back to School Eye Exams

As summer winds down and the new school year starts, one essential back-to-school task often gets overlooked: scheduling an eye exam for your child. Did you know that approximately 80% of learning is visual? Good vision plays a critical role in your child’s ability to succeed academically and socially. Good vision can promote ease in reading textbooks, following along with classroom presentations, and participating in activities. Ensuring your child’s eyes are healthy and their vision is optimal sets them up for a successful and enjoyable school year.
If you notice your child showing any of the following behaviors, it may be time to visit the eye doctor:
Squinting frequently to see the board or reading material
Sitting too close to the television or holding books close to their face
Complaining about headaches or eye strain, especially after reading or screen time
Rubbing their eyes often
Difficulty concentrating or completing homework
Avoiding reading or other visually demanding tasks
These signs don’t necessarily mean your child has a serious eye problem, but they are strong indicators that a professional eye exam is needed.
Scheduling their eye exam in August is ideal to avoid the back-to-school rush and give them time to adjust to glasses if needed.
